"I think it's a reflection of the Australian compassionate soldier, everyone wants to provide as much aid as they can. So if you're given a mandate that doesn't specifically address the locals you can't help but care. So with whatever spare capacity you can muster you will help and I think that helps with the mission in the long run in that you establish some sort of bond and reliability with the locals. They know you can be trusted and that you are there to help them."
