"I suppose the most unique part of the prisoner of war experience in Korea was that it was a continuation of the ideological warfare that sparked the conflict in the first place. The Chinese had had a great deal of success in their own revolution by what they called their lenient treatment and with their own, when they captured... soldiers they gave them this re-education program and they had a great deal of success in converting them to communism. So they thought this was a great opportunity to grab hold of a whole lot of people from the so called free world and induct them with communism and the whole battle between the POW and his captors was not to be captured under this program...."
