"The Princess Patricia's and the Australians took up positions forward, the forward positions in the brigade. And they were the two battalions which actually stopped the Chinese.
"A Company of 3 Battalion fought all night, the night of the 23rd and 24th of April. They lost more than 50 men casualties out of the 80-odd to 90 who were members of the company. The next day, Don Company, D Company of the battalion, fought a similar battle on top of a very very large mountain, which commanded the whole of the area, vital to the, whichever side that held it.
"They withheld that vast Chinese army, those two battalions, for just those 48 hours, until such time as substantial reinforcements could be brought in behind them and back them up.
"They so weakened the Chinese field army that attacked them that it was forced to withdraw and so the battle was won."
