Over the past 100 years the Australian Defence Force has undergone major changes. These days the emphasis is on preventing, not waging war. It is also about the battle of the hearts and minds and the local population - something Australian troops in any war have never had a problem winning.
Anzac Day is not just remembrance of soldiers past. It honours the continuing work done by our forces in peacekeeping efforts wherever they are deployed.
From Somalia and the Middle East to Bougainville and East Timor, Australian Peacekeeping activities have helped stabilise the military, political and social structure of many troubled areas.
