By 10 pm on April 23rd 1951, the 3rd battalion, the Royal Australian Regiment was one of the few United Nations formations standing between the Chinese 118 division and the South Korean capital, Seoul.
After a night of fierce fighting during which their positions were overrun, the Australians recaptured their positions and stalled the Chinese advance, at a cost of 32 men killed and 53 wounded. For their contribution to this action the men of 3RAR were awarded the highly prestigious US Presidential Citation.
