By 10 pm on April 23rd 1951, the Australian 27th and 29th Brigades were the only thing standing between the Chinese 118 division and the South Korean capital, Seoul.
After a night of fierce fighting during which their positions were overrun, the Australians recaptured their positions and stalled the Chinese advance, at a cost of 32 men killed and 53 wounded. For their contribution to this action the men of 3RAR were awarded the highly prestigious US Presidential Citation.
