What is the Purpose of this website?

This website has been created to provide a person that accesses it ("you") with information about the Australians at War documentary project, produced by the Australian Government Department of Veterans' Affairs ("we", "us" or "DVA") in association with the Australian War Memorial.

What responsibilities flow from accessing this website?

By making any access to this website you agree to these Terms of Use. If you do not agree to these Terms of Use then please do not access this website.

DVA may change these Terms of Use at any time.  Please regularly check this page for any changes.

By accessing this website, you also agree that you will not:

  • use your access to any areas of this website for any inappropriate purposes,
  • attempt to access areas of this website that you are not authorised to access,
  • submit any information or comments that are discourteous, defamatory, or that breach any other person’s intellectual property rights, and
  • undertake any action in relation to a Commonwealth computer constituting a breach of the Crimes Act 1914.

What happens to information submitted under this website?

By submitting any information to us through this website, including electronic mail, you provide DVA with a broad licence to reproduce, publish or broadcast that information for government purposes.

Although information submitted through this website is not treated as confidential, it is subject to the DVA’s obligations under the Privacy Act 1988.

Please ensure that any comments you provide through this website are phrased courteously.

Can information be submitted by children?

Features on this site are accessible to children under age 13. Any forms for comments or interactive content will only ask for e-mail addresses or demographic information with prior parental consent. Collected information will be used solely to directly respond to the child's request, not to contact the child for other purposes. E-mail addresses are only used for responses and are not disclosed to a third party, regardless of age, except where authorised under the Privacy Act 1988.

What are our privacy obligations?

The Australian Government Department of Veterans' Affairs is subject to the Privacy Act 1988, and treats personal information it receives about you accordingly.

Further, noting the "Guidelines for Federal and ACT Government World Wide Websites" issued by the Australian Privacy Commissioner, DVA provides the following privacy statements.

Site visit data

DVA makes a record of your visit and logs the following information for statistical purposes–the user's server address, the user's top level domain name (eg. .com, .gov, .au, .uk etc.), the date and time of the visit to the site, the pages accessed and documents downloaded, the previous site visited and the type of browser used. No attempt will be made to identify users or their browsing activities except, in the unlikely event of an investigation, where a law enforcement agency may exercise a warrant to inspect the service provider's logs.

E-mail

The security of e-mail forwarded to DVA via the Internet cannot be guaranteed. In order to protect your privacy and the privacy of others, we request that personal information not be sent by e-mail to this office.

In turn DVA s will only forward information of a personal nature by traditional means, such as post, facsimile or telephone, if appropriate. Please advise your preferred means of communication for the requested information to be sent to you. Where appropriate, your telephone or facsimile number and postal address should be included in your reply.

E-mail address details

We maintain email lists for the media and interested website visitors to inform them of new information on this website. If you subscribe to information services offered through the DVA Website then your e-mail address and other personal information you may provide will be maintained on our mailing list administered by the service provider. It will only be used for the purpose for which you have provided it and will not be added to another mailing list. We will not use your e-mail address nor disclose it, except where authorised under Privacy Act 1988.

  • might be intercepted by third parties, and
  • might not be immediately received by the appropriate area or individual at DVA.

Also, an acknowledgment of "receipt" for an electronic mail message may mean only that the message has been sent into the Internet. This does not necessarily mean that the message has been received by us or any specific person at DVA.

Please do not rely on electronic mail to send to us communications that contain sensitive or confidential information, or that need DVA’s immediate attention.

For sensitive or urgent communications, please telephone us on the number stated below, or DVA’s national telephone number: 133 245.
